Why should I sauna?
The reasons to sauna outweigh the reasons not to sauna!
Benefits happen on many levels; physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being. Our top reasons to sauna are cardiovascular health, detoxification, inflammation reduction, micro-stressing of cells, muscle recovery, and de-stressing. Read the full benefits here.
It’s hot outside, why should I sauna?
It’s not about getting warm. The sun and the sauna do very different things to our bodies. A sauna heats your core temperature, which is where the magic begins. Saunas are healthy and anti-aging, whereas sun exposure is the opposite.
What does the sauna look like?
Our Hot Hut was crafted by a master Finnish sauna builder and is made with imported Norwegian Spruce. It is wood-fired, and the bed of exposed rocks will provide steam with a sprinkle of water. The wide postbox window will give you a view from both the upper and lower seating levels.
Like you wouldn’t eat just before a gym session, it’s advisable not to eat at least two hours before entering into the sauna.
Listen to your body – while taking a sauna is generally not a high-risk activity, if you are feeling dizzy or uncomfortable, don’t use the sauna.
If you feel dizzy during the session, please step out and chill for a bit. Our South Africa sauna supervisors are trained in first aid and can help you with any questions you may have.
What must I bring?
A towel to sit on in the sauna.
A water bottle, as staying hydrated is very important.
Slip on shoes if you are planning on a dip in between sessions.
What do I wear? Is going naked an option?
While the Nordic cultures would be curious as to why we even ask this question, here in SA tend to be a little more reserved. We require you to wear swimwear.
What do I do with my stuff while in the sauna?
We will provide bags for you to leave your keys, wallet and phone in, and we will keep them safe. Storage is limited, so please leave the rest of your things in your car.
What about cleaning the sauna?
A sauna is too hot and too dry for most microorganisms. Most bacteria die in temperatures between 50–60℃. / 122–140℉. Our sauna is hotter than this - typically 70℃/ 158℉.
Just to keep things ultra-hygienic we wipe down the benches with non-toxic anti-bacterial wipes between sessions and the design of the sauna includes proper ventilation so mould won’t be an issue.
